What’s For Supper? Swipe, Match, Cook.

Turn “What’s for supper?” from the daily dreaded question into a fun family activity where kids actually want to help decide.

The goal is not to build another recipe app. It’s to involve the whole family in choosing what’s for supper. The kids swipe through our recipes and vote for what they’d like to eat. On Sunday afternoons, we can figure out the week’s meal plan together as a family, even when we’re on the go.

Once we choose the meals, their ingredients become a shared grocery list. We use it every week when we shop. When it’s time to cook, we follow Cook’s Mode or open the original digital recipe card on a phone or iPad.

Our collection started with months’ worth of recipe cards from meal boxes like Goodfood and HelloFresh. Before long, we had a thick stack on top of a binder, alongside our many cookbooks. And that’s not counting all the recipes we found online!

Since April 2026, we haven’t gone back to the paper stack.

Capturing new recipes is one of my favorite things to do.

After supper at a friend’s house, I asked for his recipe. He pulled out a handwritten cue card. I snapped a photo with What’s for Supper. The app read his handwriting, generated an image of the cooked dish, and made the recipe available for the family to vote on.

All I had to do was snap a photo!

Right then and there, without leaving the table or missing a beat, I added a note and tagged the recipe as loved by the family.

To me, this is the next version of my mom’s recipe binder and grandma’s box of cards. It’s self-hosted, with a collection built by your home, for your home. Not someone else’s catalogue.

Every household’s collection will look different. Vegetarian favourites, food intolerances, a tight grocery budget, or simply different tastes. What matters is that the collection reflects the people around your table, including the recipes and traditions passed down through generations.

Love Grandma’s carrot cake or her special holiday dinner? Ask to take a photo of the recipe. Bring it home, cook it together, and pass the tradition on.

Want to try it first? Open the What’s for Supper demo and use the family passphrase welcome-demo.

You can run What’s for Supper in your home. I’m still working through a few last issues before calling it V1. All feedback is welcome!
